Capitals, (SANA) – The Syrian-Saudi-Lebanese summit received considerable attention by Arab mass media, describing it as a historical summit and focusing on its closing statement.
Saudi newspaper al-Watan said that the visit of President Bashar al-Assad and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia is proof of the political understanding between Syria and Saudi Arabia, sending a message to all the Lebanese that the two countries agree that the security and stability of Lebanon must not be undermined.
Al-Watan said the summit will pave the way towards reconciliation in Lebanon and achieve stronger stability in the face of Israeli threats and internal disagreements.
Saudi newspaper al-Madina affirmed that the tripartite summit affirms the Syrian-Saudi commitment to supporting Lebanon's unity and stability, adding that the Syrian and Saudi leaderships' firm stance regarding the Palestinian cause stressed the importance of Palestinian reconciliation.
Saudi newspaper al-Yawm said the summit aims at containing any possible escalation of the internal situation in Lebanon, while al-Nadwa newspaper affirmed that President al-Assad and King Abdullah exerted all efforts to bring Lebanese viewpoints closer.
In turn, Asharq Alawsat newspaper pointed out that the tripartite summit created an atmosphere of political relief in Lebanon and affirmed the Arab leaders' solidarity in the face of Israeli threats.
The newspaper noted that the summit stressed the need to continue supporting the Doha Agreement and implementing the Taif Agreement, adding that three countries are in agreement regarding all Arab issues.
Al-Hayat newspaper underlined the points in the summit's closing statement related to supporting Lebanese stability through accordance, the Taif Agreement and the Doha Agreement, in addition to the points stressing Arab joint action and solidarity and just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
In turn, Lebanese newspaper As-Safir said that the visit of President al-Assad and Kign Abdullah helped the atmosphere in Lebanon to shift from tension to a state of relaxation, noting that the visit came after the two leaders formulated a political agreement regarding what preserves Lebanon's safety.
Lebanese newspaper al-Diyar described the day of the summit as "distinctly Arab, unprecedented," saying that it consecrated the standards of national accordance, dialogue and stability.
Emirati newspaper al-Khalij affirmed that the visit of President al-Assad and King Abdullah aimed at protecting Lebanon from political or security-related turmoil, hoping that the Arab concern for Lebanon will motivate it to overcome any attempt at threatening its civil security.
Emirati newspaper Akhbar al-Arab said the visit affirms to the Lebanese and all the Arabs that the storm gathering in Lebanon's horizon can be contained through Arab solidarity, noting that Lebanon has become an arena for inter-Arab solidarity which greatly upsets Israel.
The newspaper said the visit clearly shows that Syria and Saudi Arabia refuse any excuse or pretext for causing another crisis in Lebanon, and that the rest is up to the Lebanese who are the only side capable of self-control and initiating Lebanese national dialogue.
In turn, Emirati newspaper al-Bayan said that the high-level coordination between Syria and Saudi Arabia is cause for widescale Arab relief due to the central roles of Damascus and Riyadh in Arab joint action.
In a report, Jordan News Agency (Petra) pointed out that the summit stressed the need for Arab solidarity and unity to confront challenges facing the nation, mainly the Israeli challenge consisting of the continued occupation of Arab lands, criminal practices against the Palestinian people, the siege on Gaza, and attempts at Judaizing Jerusalem.
Omani newspaper al-Watan said that this historical summit bolstered hope in the possibility of overcoming disagreements and defusing tension, in addition to reinforcing hope and confidence in the future among all the Lebanese.
