Mar 13, 2010

Prague, (SANA)- Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Committee at the Czech Senate Jiri Dienstbier has stressed importance of Syria's role in ensuring stability and security in the region.

In a statement to SANA correspondent in Prague prior to his visit to Damascus on Sunday, Dienstbier pointed out that Czech identical stance with those of EU, UN and the international community that no peace in the region can be realized unless Israel fully withdraws from the occupied Syrian Golan.

He said that the visit of a delegation representing the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Committee to Syria is a continuity to the standing dialogue between the two countries on the political and economic issues; particularly the two countries are connected with deep-rooted good relations.

He indicated that the Czech, being a member at the EU, is able to help in the standing dialogue between the EU and Syria regarding the Association Agreement. He said that peace and prosperity in the Middle East reflect on the permanent peace in Europe, including Czech.

He criticized the Israeli settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territories. He said that the Israeli settlement activities constitute an obstacle in the face of the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.

The Czech Legislator called for implementing the international resolutions to find a solution to the international issues, particularly the Arab-Israeli conflict.
