Beirut, (SANA) – Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah said on Monday that the opposition accepts the results of the elections with a democratic spirit regardless of our evaluation of the electoral process and the methods that were used during it, including huge expenditure, sectarian and sometimes racial incitement, and open foreign interferences.
In a speech broadcast by al-Manar television channel, Nasrallah underlined the difference between the parliamentary majority and the public majority, noting that the parliamentary majority, which he accepted, may or may not be a public majority, saying this will be determined later by statistics study centers.
He pointed out that accusations and lies were propagated during the electoral campaigns in order to cause fear in the public opinion, noting that two of the greatest lies were proven false.
The Secretary General said the first lie was the political discourse by some of the March 14 Alliance political leaders that said the opposition doesn't want there to be elections and will sabotage the political and security situation to prevent them or sabotage them, or that the opposition will not accept these results if they are not in their favor.
Nasrallah stressed that the opposition's way of dealing with the results prove that this is one of the biggest lies that were used during the electoral campaign, adding that Lebanon has witnessed a normal and remarkable day of elections with a huge turnout, and a calm victory and announcement of results with no problems.
He said the second lie was the claim that elections cannot be held with Hezbollah keeping its arms, because this would mean that the people will be under pressure and will not be able to express themselves.
The Secretary General stressed that despite their importance, the parliamentary elections represent one step which will be followed by other points and steps, noting that if the opposition won the majority than the other team would have questioned the integrity of the elections, but since the March 14 Alliance won the parliamentary majority, nobody is mentioning this issue.
Nasrallah affirmed that the arms of the Resistance isn't for imposing political fact or allowing someone to rise to power or remove someone, but rather they have a clear task of resistance and defending the country, noting that the electoral process prove the validity of the use of these arms.
He added that the most important thing about this experience is that the Lebanese proved their ability to preserve peace, stability and electoral competition without affecting the factors of security and stability, which is something that must be preserved and protected.
The Secretary General saluted the leaderships, staff, parties and supporters of the opposition, saying that together they established an honest national goal of achieving a major reform project on political, legal, economic, social, livelihood and financial levels, stressing that the opposition sought the parliamentary majority in order to achieve reform, not for seizing authority and hegemony.
Nasrallah said that the opposition exerted all efforts in this electoral battle because there wasn't anyone left in the world who didn't try to interfere in the elections.
He affirmed that the opposition reiterates its commitment to serving the reform project that their masses believed in and suffered for during the past period, affirming that the parliamentary elections is no more than a stop on the long road of national political struggle, adding that the opposition will be discussing the steps and plans for the next phase, particularly in regards to the issues of choosing a House Speaker and naming a Prime Minister.
The Secretary General stressed that the results show that the Resistance is the choice of the people and that the issue of Resistance is an issue of public will, adding that all Lebanese sides must reach a conviction that saving Lebanon, developing it, resolving its problems, improving its position, and preserving its sovereignty, independence, freedom and dignity requires their cooperation and solidarity.
Nasrallah pointed out that this linked to the will of all political forces whose political, public and parliamentary presence was proven by the elections, even those who didn't win parliamentary seats were proven to have strong public presence in their areas that should not be overlooked.
He raised the question of what the other team's priorities are and what mentality they will use to deal with public affairs, wondering if they will benefit from the experiences of the past four years.
The Secretary General went on to say that the opposition kept its parliamentary position based on its public and political position that may be a majority on the public level, stressing that the opposition is involved in the destiny of Lebanon, calling the other party to adopt clarity in the next stage since Lebanon is based on transparency, clarity and honesty, which are necessary to overcome problems and disputes and open doors for dialogue and understanding.
Nasrallah called for building a republic on the basis of honesty, not lies, accusations, suspicions and fears, saying "We are in front of a new stage and a new situation, and we must deal with all its effects and results and benefit from previous lessons, gaps, mistakes, positive points, negative points, and points of strength and weakness."
He concluded by stressing that the matter which bears no delay is the responsibility towards the people and the country, particularly towards those who gave blood, sacrifices and great efforts to liberate and defend Lebanon, saying this stage must give them more determination to continue work and struggle with hope and faith in order to protect Lebanon for the sake of those who gave their lives for preserving and defending it.
