Al-Abrash: Syria Will Continue backing Resistance in Lebanon and Palestine

Jan 01, 2009

Damascus, (SANA) – Speaker of the People's Assembly Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash affirmed on Thursday that Syria has always stood with the Arab resistance in Lebanon and Palestine and will continue to support it until victory is achieved.

During his speech at the 14th extraordinary conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in the city of Tyre, Southern Lebanon, al-Abrash pointed out that no-one in the region is safe from dangers and violation of international laws and that unity is needed more than ever to face the plots and conspiracies against the region and its people.

He underlined that Gaza is besieged both by an enemy that knows only murder and extermination and by media silence and suppression that covers the Israeli crimes.

Al-Abrash stated that the parliamentary meeting which is dedicated to supporting Gaza reflects the sentiments of the Arab people, who are protesting and organizing sit-ins in the cities of Arab countries.

He went on to say that the world's parliaments are witnessing the murder and destruction of Gaza and the siege imposed on its people, all of which violate international legitimacy, calling on the International Parliamentary Federation and international organizations to take a unified and just stance regarding the events in Gaza, which would further support the Arab stances and awaken consciences all over the world.

Al-Abrash concluded by stressing that there can be no negotiations over rights and no reconciliation with enemies and those who withdraw from the battle against those enemies.
