Damascus, (SANA)- President Bashar al-Assad received two invitations from Leader of the Libyan Revolution, Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi to attend the Arab Extraordinary and the Arab-African Summits scheduled to be held in Libya in early October.
The invitations were conveyed by Secretary of Libya’s People’s Committee of Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation Moussa Kossa during a meeting with President al-Assad on Monday morning.
Kossa briefed President al-Assad on the underway preparations for convening the two summits and the efforts exerted to make them a success in serving the interests of the Arab and African peoples and achieving their aspirations
The inter-Arab, the Arab-African relations and the importance of focusing on the economic issues to consolidate sound infrastructure for the relations among the Arab countries and expanding them towards Africa, were also discussed during the meeting.
Talks also touched upon development of the bilateral relations between Syria and Libya and with the other Arab countries and the need for boosting the joint Arab action to serve the Arab interests and legitimate causes.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad and the Libyan Ambassador in Damascus.
President al-Assad participated in the 22nd Arab Summit held in Sirte last March. It was agreed upon holding extraordinary summit in Libya next October for following up outcome of Sirte summit. Sirte summit called for the 2nd Arab-African Summit in Libya to be a new platform for an effective cooperation between the two sides.
The summit also adopted the initiative put forward by Syria on a mechanism to manage the inter-Arab differences and ratified the proposed mechanisms to ensure the success of Arab initiatives concerned with settling these differences.
President al-Assad visited Libya last January and discussed with Colonel Gaddafi the distinguished bilateral relations and latest Arab developments.
