Damascus, (SANA) – On the occasion of Mother's Day, Mrs. Asma al-Assad on Saturday honored a number of distinguished mothers working in cotton, olive and wheat sectors at the Damascene Hall.

Mrs. Al-Assad expressed pleasure for meeting the mothers saying… "When the world celebrates Mother's Day, it celebrates the glorious values and meanings represented through motherhood at best." She said that that the working mother symbolizes the prettiest image for motherhood.

Mrs. Al-Assad added that the agricultural sector contributes at a large extent to national economic income.

"Here we should highlight the role of the Syrian women working in agriculture and their contribution to the country's livelihood and upgrading living standards of its people as well as achieving self-sufficiency, which is an important factor for the independence of decision making," Mrs. al-Assad added.

"Agriculture is associated with seasons. Land produces more when we look after it, and a child grows up when we meet his/her needs…yet no one and nothing in the world but mothers generously give without waiting for anything in return; hence, not just a season, but all seasons are theirs," she said.

Mrs. Al-Assad thanked all mothers who plant and look after the homeland's children, considering motherhood as the best example of affiliation to humanity.

"Motherhood and agricultural work together for building the motherland.Homeland is man and land together," she added.

Honored mothers expressed pleasure over the meeting. They thanked Mrs. Asma al-Assad for her care expressed through the participation in the Mother's Day celebration.

Mother's Day is marked on March 21st in Syria.
