Deir Ezzor, Eastern Syria (SANA)-Deir Ezzor- Abu Kamal Railway is 147 km-long, at a construction cost of SP 11, 13 000, 000.
The railway connects the Syrian Railways Network from Deir Ezzour station to Abu Kamal, then to the Syrian-Iraqi borders.
Director of the project Jaber al-Saleh said the railway connects with the Iraqi Railway at al-Kaem. It connects Europe via Syrian harbors to Iraq and then to the Gulf, Iran and Eastern Asia.
He said the railway includes the stations of Tabbieh, al-Mayadin, Granij, al-Bouhaira, al-Maslakha, al-Boukamal and then the Syrian-Iraqi borders.
The whole railway is expected to be operated by the end of 2011. The railway is designed for carrying passengers and goods both ways. The route is 147.4 km at a design speed of 250 km per hour.
