President al-Assad to Berri: Syria Stands by Lebanon against any Israeli Aggression

Feb 07, 2010

Damascus, (SANA)-President Bashar al-Assad and Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri on Sunday discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the positive progress in the Syrian-Lebanese relations.

Both sides also discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations in line with the historical and geographic ties between the two brotherly countries.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the Israeli repeated threats against countries of the region and Israeli extremism which is poised for burying any chance for reaching peace by inflaming wars in the region and taking it into the unknown.

President al-Assad stressed Syria's commitment to stand by Lebanon's government and people against any Israeli aggression.

Discussions also touched upon the Arab and regional situations, particularly in the Palestinian arena.

Berri's visit comes in the framework of the visits paid by a number of the Lebanese officials to Damascus during the last two months.

President al-Assad held talks with President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri on 18 and 19 December 2009, dealing with enhancing cooperation between Syria and Lebanon in all fields and continuing consultation and coordination on all levels.
