Damascus, (SANA)-Syrian-Turkish relations are based on joint history, mutual trust, and relentless efforts of both countries to consolidate bilateral cooperation on all levels.

"People in Syria and Turkey have shared the same history from the early ages that has yielded family, social, cultural and historic fully-fledged relations", said Turkish Ambassador to Syria Omer Onhon on the occasion of Turkey's National Day.

The two countries agreed on enhancing these relations in the future to become an example to be followed by other countries, he added.

He went on saying "Syria is the key country and if peace is achieved in the region, it will be the main center of this equation."

With regard to the peace process, he said "Turkey seeks to achieve just and comprehensive peace and stability in the region. We support the Palestinian people to achieve their independence and sovereignty and we stand by Syria to restore the occupied Golan."

Ambassador Onhon hailed the economic relations between Syria and Turkey, saying " The volume of trade exchange between the two countries hit S.P 1, 8billions last year," adding" Syria is a main gate that connects 320 million persons throughout the Middle East."

He pointed out that Syria has huge capacities in the field of tourism, asserting his country's readiness to contribute to infrastructure projects in Syria, train its tourist cadres and to carryout joint projects in this domain.

 Turkey has huge investments in Syria with an amount of U.S.D 900 millions and most of these investments are in the industrial field.

Both countries singed different agreements that have organized bilateral cooperation in all fields and resulted in establishing the High-level Strategic Cooperation Council and ending visa requirements.
