DAMASCUS, (SANA)-Vice President Farouk al-Shara on Tuesday received a letter sent to President Bashar al-Assad from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, conveyed by the Iranian Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mohammad Saidi-Kia.
During the meeting, talks dealt with the latest political developments in the region and bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
Both sides discussed the dangerous repercussions of the Israeli continued aggression on the Palestinians in Gaza and the necessity of ending their suffering as well as helping rebuild what has been destroyed by the Israeli aggression on the Strip.
Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal al-Mikdad, the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus and the Iranian Minister's accompanying delegation attended the meeting.
"Talks with Mr. Shara dealt with the message conveyed to President al-Assad from President Ahmadinejad… during the meeting, both sides underlined the need for boosting and consolidating cooperation between the two countries and the outcomes of the Syrian-Iranian Higher committee held lately in Tehran," the Iranian Minister said in a statement to reporters following the meeting.
He added the talks also tackled a number of regional issues, on top, the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the victory achieved by the Palestinian resistance and the need for preserving it as well as the outcomes of the meetings held in Sharm el-Sheikh on reconstructing Gaza.
"We discussed the regional cooperation among Syria, Iran, Turkey and Iraq, particularly in the economic field which includes a number of aspects such as gas and oil pipelines, energy, railways and roads' cooperation," Minister Kia added.
On the Iranian-Bahraini relations, the Iranian Minister said talks dealt with this issue and the misunderstanding regarding it, underlining that it was settled.
