The Cabinet Decides to Close American School and Culture Center, Postpones Meeting of High Syrian-Iraqi Committee

Oct 28, 2008

Damascus, Oct. 28 (SANA)-The Cabinet decided to close both the Damascus-based American School and the Culture Center postpone the meeting of the High Syrian-Iraqi Committee  .

The Cabinet, in its weekly meeting on Tuesday headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Ottri, asked the Ministers of Education and Culture to take the needed procedures to implement the decision in coordination with the relevant circles.

The Cabinet also decided to postpone the meeting of the High Syrian-Iraqi Committee which was due to be held in Baghdad Nov. 12-13.

It also condemned the brutal, vicious American aggression on al-Sukkariah village in Abu Kamal which claimed the lives of several innocent citizens and wounding several others.

The Cabinet expressed strong denunciation and astonishment over the statements by the spokesman for the Iraqi government and his unacceptable and irresponsible justification for this heinous aggression which was launched from the Iraqi territories against a neighboring Arab country.

The general state budget for 2009 was also endorsed during the Cabinet meeting. The overall budget amounted to S.P. 685 billions, 14 percent increase in comparison with the 2008 budget.
