July 22, William Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice entered on the Stationers’ Register

1598 – William Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice is entered on the Stationers’ Register by a decree of Queen Elizabeth.

1624 – German Wilhelm Schickard from Heidelberg University discovers first calculating machine , named  the calculating clock.
