Homs Governor to UNRWA Director: Economic and social situation in Homs recovering quickly

Homs, SANA – Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi on Sunday met Director of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Syria, Michael Kingsley-Nyinah, affirming to him that the Governorate is committed to providing services to Palestinian camps in the province and prepared to cooperate with international organizations in this field.

Al-Barazi voiced appreciation for the role of international organizations in helping displaced people return to their homes, asserting that the economic and social situation in Homs is recovering quickly, adding that reconstruction is expected to be launched in 2016.

He noted that displaced people are still returning to the Old City neighborhoods in Homs, with the locals of al-Bayyada neighborhood due to return within the next few weeks, asserting that reconciliations proved to be a success in the province.

In turn, Kingsley-Nyinah expressed thanks for the Syrian government and Homs Governorate for the support they provide to Palestinian refugees, adding that the success of the agreement regarding al-Waer neighborhood will have a positive effect on Homs and Syria as a whole, and that the UNRWA wants Syria to remain safe and strong.
