Syria and UNRWA stress commitment to cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad on Tuesday met Commissioner-General of the UNRWA Pierre Krahenbuhl, stressing to him Syria’s commitment to ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches Palestinians in all camps in Syria.

During the meeting, Mikdad said the terrorist organizations like ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and other Al Qaeda affiliates along with their backers are responsible for the suffering of the Palestinians in the camps, noting that targeting these camps is part of an Israeli scheme to empty them as a preface to erasing the Palestinians’ right of return and self-determination.

He also underlined the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination between UNRWA and the Syrian government to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians in Syria and provide them with all the services they need, especially aid and education.

For his part, Krahenbuhl lauded the efforts exerted by the Syrian government to ensure the delivery of aid to Palestinian refugees, adding that Syria has been providing significant help to the UNRWA in supporting the education needs of Palestinians.

He stressed that the UNRWA and Syria will continue cooperating to improve the living standards of the Palestinians in Syria, especially in these current harsh circumstances.
