PM calls for combating corruption, promoting performance of public institutions

Damascus, SANA – The Cabinet called on Tuesday for monitoring markets and controlling prices, combating corruption and promoting performance of public institutions.

The government held its weekly session, chaired by Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi who called for an immediate treatment for the citizens’ basic needs, mainly providing clean drinking water in some Syrian cities, protecting the consumer and finding new mechanisms to control prices.

He pointed out to the important role of “positive intervention institutions” in creating new ways to ensure goods for citizens with fit prices, particularly school uniforms, bags and stationary with encouraging prices.

The cabinet condemned the destruction of ancient monuments by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria terrorist organization (ISIS), appealing to the international community to assume its responsibilities in fighting terrorism and its organizations

During the session, Deputy Foreign Minister for Services Affairs, Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalawanji reviewed the performance of service sector in the provinces, particularly in the eastern city Deir Ezzor and the measures taken to enhance this sector and provide food, living and relief substances for all areas.
