The establishment of a “buffer zone” aims to divide Syria, Iranian official asserts

Tehran, SANA- The international adviser to the Iranian Islamic Shura Council Head, Hussein Sheikh al-Islam asserted Saturday that the establishment of a “buffer zone” inside the Syrian territories by the regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan is an Israeli-US conspiracy that aims to divide Syria.

“Turkey, which has been supporting terrorists and extremists in Syria, will itself suffer from them, because when a fire erupts in a neighboring country , surely it will spread in the same area”, Sheikh al-Islam told the Iranian Fares News Agency (FNA).

He voiced concern over taking false trends by Erdogan’s government and carrying out practices hostile to the Syrian people instead of supporting them.

On Thursday, Iran Deputy foreign minister Hossain Amir Abdullahian voiced opposition to the establishment of a buffer zone in Syria as violation of the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty by foreign states, and said such measures will further make the regional conditions critical.
