Ambassador Ala: Reports of Commission of Inquiry on Syria lack objectivity, credibility

Ala

Geneva, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala said the reports of the International Commission of Inquiry on Syria lack objectivity and honesty.

Ala, at a session held on Tuesday by the Human Rights Council to discuss a report by the Commission on the situation in Syria, Ala said the report presented to the council is based on distorted criteria and one-sided stories with unknown sources.

He said the committee has deliberately ignored testimonies of thousands of Syrian citizens on their sufferings resulted by the crimes of the terrorist organizations, and that it also neglected the information provided by the Syrian government to the UN institutions.

Ala stressed that the Commission seeks to make political accusations on alleged violations of human rights by the Syrian government just to satisfy the demands of the countries that have formed the commission in the first place, the same countries which are responsible for destabilization of the situation in Syria through their support to terrorism and terrorists.

He affirmed that the committee’s approach in favor of the terrorist organizations, including Jabhat al-Nusra which the commission describes as part of the “armed opposition groups” even though it is labeled as a terrorist group by the UN Security Council, proves the suspicions of the Syrian government regarding the credibility and honesty of the commission and makes dialogue with it goes in absurdity.

Ala condemned the silence of the commission on the repercussions of the economic sanctions and embargo on Syria, affirming Syria’s rejection of all the baseless accusations against the Syrian state and army.

The Syrian Representative dismissed as “shameful and baseless” the allegations made by the commission which accuse the Syrian governmental forces of using chlorine gas, adding that such accusations contradict the reality and is considered as a flagrant interference in the investigations being carried out by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

He went on to say that Syria has provided documents that prove the involvement of the terrorist organizations in using chlorine gas, underlining that Syria is determined to cooperate with OPCW to verify this information.
