Syria and Russia set to enhance academic cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Higher Education Mohammad Amer al-Mardini discussed on Thursday with Director of the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus Vyacheslav Avsyanken mechanisms of increasing the number of scholarships for Syrian students to build their capacities, particularly in qualitative and medical disciplines.

During the meeting, the minister affirmed the importance of signing agreements between Syrian and Russian universities, and supporting the Russian Language Department which was recently established in the Faculty of Arts.

Al-Mardini pointed to the solidness of social and cultural ties between Syria and Russia which were embodied in building bridges of cooperation and coordination between both countries in various fields especially under the current circumstances and the need to improve scientific relations so as to match the level of diplomatic ones.

For his part, Avsyanken praised the high level of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the cultural and scientific fields which have recently improved remarkably, especially as regards the number of scholarships and student exchange.
