Assyrian Church in Lebanon voices support to innocent civilians in Syria against ISIS crimes

Beirut, SANA – The Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East in Lebanon expressed support to the safe civilians who were targeted by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorists in Hasaka countryside, northeast Syria, Patriarch of Antioch for the Syriac Catholic Church Mar Ignatius Joseph III Younan said Saturday.

Patriarch Younan called, in his speech before a mass crowd staging a sit-in in front of the UN-ESCWA headquarters in Downtown Beirut, for stopping the massacres committed by the terrorist organizations.

“We were and are still living as brothers and sisters in Syria, the good land and the cradle of civilizations and religions,” His Beatitude said.

On February 23rd , ISIS terrorists began an assault on the villages of Tal Hermez, Tal Shamiram, Tal Rumman, Tal Nasri, al-Aghibash, Touma Yelda, and al-Hawouz in Hasaka’s western countryside.

The terrorist organization also committed acts of atrocities, including killing, vandalism, armed robbery and destruction of scores of houses and churches, in addition to burning down the antique church of Tal Hermez, one of the oldest churches in Syria, among other crimes that claimed tens of lives, drove hundreds of people out of their homes and left scores of houses burned to the ground.
