Health Minister: Necessity of providing vaccine and funding national campaigns for Polio eradication

Geneva, SANA- Activities of the 152nd session of the World Health Organization’s Executive Board continue for the 5th day, held in Geneva from January 30th to February 7th, 2023.

Health Minister, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabbash, reciting the statement of the Syrian Arab Republic, and on behalf of the member states in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, regarding the polio program, that work is underway to eradicate the virus in most countries.

Minister Al-Ghobash indicated several steps that must be taken to eradicate poliomyelitis, emphasizing the importance of providing support to obtain an infrastructure that ensures the disease does not occur and ensuring environmental monitoring in all countries to detect any type of polio virus in health facilities.

He explained the importance of treating all countries equally, in terms of providing the vaccine against the virus, and carrying out wide campaigns in high-risk areas, while ensuring awareness, and taking advantage of the expertise of countries that have eradicated the disease.

In another statement of the Syrian Arab Republic on substandard and counterfeit medical products, Health Minister explained that they pose a serious threat to public health in the region, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
