The 2nd camp for installing 500 lower limb prosthesis for war-wounded and people with disabilities kicks off in Damascus

Damascus, SANA- Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Indian Embassy in Damascus launched the second camp for installing 500 lower limb prosthesis for war-wounded persons and people with disabilities at the Vocational Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons Institute in Damascus.

The camp, implemented by the Indian /Mahawir/ Association for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled in partnership with the Syrian Step Association for Artificial Limbs and the Social Welfare Association, (Excellence in Orphan Sponsorship), lasts for 42 days will receive the wounded from different governorates.

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Muhammad Seif El-Din, said in a statement that the project aims to empower people with disabilities and integrate them into society, to practice their own work, and to return them to their normal lives.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari said that the camp is a humanitarian message from the friendly Indian government and coincides with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who represents a symbol of peace, recalling that “India had a principle stance toward terrorist war on Syria through its membership in the Security Council and its support for the position of the Syrian government, its political independence and territorial integrity.

Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Awsaf Sayed indicated that the camp gives a message of peace and humanity and that the Indian government is ready to provide all possible support for capacity-building and human resource development for Syrian youth.

Chargé d’Affairs of the Indian Embassy in Damascus, Satinder Kumar Yadav, pointed out that the embassy works permanently in coordination with the Syrian government to enhance cooperation.

In 2019 the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the Ministry of Health and the Indian Embassy in Damascus launched an initiative to install 500 limbs within the Indian project to provide support and assistance to install artificial limbs, which was the first camp for this purpose.
