UNICEF promises more support and services to Hama province

Hama, SANA – Director of Office of Emergency Programs of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Afshan Khan announced that work is underway to prepare for an annual program to specify form and targets of support in Hama.

During a meeting with the Governor of the central province Ghassan Khalaf on Saturday, Khan noted that the preparations for this program are being worked on in coordination with the concerned parties in the Syrian government.

Issues of cooperation in the fields of health, education, water and sewage treatment plants to provide better services to the people, particularly children and women, figured prominently in the talks, which were attended by
the delegation accompanying Khan.

Discussions focused mainly on the projects jointly executed by Hama governorate and the UNICEF and the projects currently in the process of implementation, so as to determine and provide the necessary equipment needs.

Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Hanaa Singer announced that the organization intends to increase quantities of food supplies meant for children in Hama.

She also referred to plans to secure school requirements for 70 schools in Hama, a plan she said will include a program for psychological and educational rehabilitation for students.

The UNICEF delegation later visited a number of water desalination plants in al-Kaffat town.
