Syrian-Armenian Friendship committee meets Armenian Ambassador in Damascus

Damascus, SANA- Chairman and members of the Syrian-Armenian Friendship committee at the People’s Assembly stressed the necessity of enhancing relations between Syria and Armenia in all domains in the interests of the two countries.

Chairman and members of the committee visited the Armenian Embassy in Damascus and met  Ambassador  Tigran Gevorgyan  to congratulate him on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s  Independence .

In turn, Ambassador Gevorgyan said that “the independence of Armenia in 1991 through a general referendum was the choice of the Armenian people who, throughout centuries, have possessed the factors of the independent people and the right of sovereignty on their own historic territories.”

He added that cooperation between Syria and Armenia is deeply-rooted and  based on direct transparent dialogue between the two leaderships and on joint interests.

The Ambassador  clarified that the historic relations reached an advanced level after the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Armenia in 2009 and the visit of former Armenian President ,Serzh Sargsyan to Syria in 2010.
