Syrian Moataz Salhani’s goal among Daily Mail’s top10 goals of 2014 list

Damascus, SANA – The British newspaper Daily Mail selected a goal scored by Syrian footballer Motaz Salhani among the top 10 best goals of 2014.

The newspaper described Forward Motaz Sahhani’s goal, the only one scored in a game he played within al-Wehdat against al-Ramtha in Jordan’s Premier League, March 15, as “so unique that it is actually quite hard to describe.”

Salhani, the newspaper explained, was running forward and was halfway into the Al-Ramtha half before a chipped through-ball was seemingly played too far behind him.

“The Al-Wehdat forward was not put off, however, and stuck his right leg behind his body, flicking the ball into the air and it flew over the top of the Al-Ramtha keeper and into the net from 25 yards.

“Was it intentional? Possibly not, but it was still exceptional,” the newspaper added.

The top 10 goals list included the goals of the Netherland Robin Van Persie against Spain in the World Cup finals, and the stunning goal of the Colombian James Rodriguez against Uruguay which has been selected as the best goal of the Tournament in FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, in addition to the goals of Manchester United player, the Argentinean Angel di Maria, and Arsenal player, Aaron Ramsey.

After being widely acclaimed by various international sports newspapers and websites, Motaz’s goal has been recently nominated by the Spanish newspaper el-Pais for Fédération Internationale de Football Association awards to be held next month.
