Health Ministry: Last 6 Coronavirus cases were among arrivals from abroad

Damascus, SANA – The Health Ministry said that the last 6 Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases that have been registered in Syria were among people who had arrived from abroad, and that no cases among residents in the country have been registered since the beginning of May.

In a statement to SANA on Saturday, Assistant Director of the Contagious and Terminal Diseases Department at the Ministry, Dr. Atef al-Tawil, said that the last six cases were diagnosed via PCR tests conducted to people who came from abroad who had no symptoms.

He noted that during the past two weeks, 13 flights transporting around 2270 Syrians who had been stranded abroad arrived to Syria from 9 countries, all of whom were put in quarantine which will last for 14 days, during which tests showed that 6 of them were infected with the Coronavirus.

Out of the 50 COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Syria so far, 36 have recovered and 3 have passed away, while the remaining 11 cases are still under medical observation.
