1975- Juan Carlos becomes king of Spain.

1990- British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher submits her resignation to Queen Elizabeth II.

2005- Angela Merkel appointed Germany’s first female Chancellor.

1890- French President Charles de Gaulle was born.

1963- 35th president of the US John Kennedy passes away.
