Syrian-Hungarian joint archeological expedition begins work at Krak des Chevaliers

Homs, SANA – The Syrian-Hungarian joint archeological expedition began its work at Krak des Chevaliers castle in Homs countryside, starting work at the castle’s church hall.

The expedition has been working in Syria since 2000, and has carried out considerable restoration and excavation work at Krak des Chevaliers and Margat castle.

Directorate-General for Antiquities and Museums (DGAM) Director-General Mahmoud al-Hammoud noted that the Hungarian team hasn’t stopped working in Syria despite all the difficult conditions, making great achievements through their renovation work in archeological sites.

For his part, head of the Hungarian team, archeologist Balazs Major, who is the head of the archeology department at Pazmany Peter Catholic University, said that work is underway to set up a gallery or a reception hall at Krak des Chevaliers where visitors can be provided with information about the castle and the work done in it.
