Cabinet discusses current state of living standards, services situation

Damascus, SANA – The caretaker Cabinet on Tuesday discussed the current state of services and living standards for citizens and, amended the law regulating the work of medical laboratories and the law on medical promotion offices.

Heading the session, Prime Minister-designate Wael al-Halaqi called upon the Ministry of Local Administration to speed up maintenance work for the interior transportation buses and buy new ones as to deal with congestion issues in Damascus.

He also tasked the Ministry of Water Resources with securing pumps to provide Sweida province’s water needs.

Al-Halaqi said that the project for issuing smart cards for government vehicles is being implemented in seven provinces and will soon cover all provinces, adding that the project aims at rationalizing spending, curbing corruption, and preventing any squandering of public resources.

The Prime Minister-designate also gave an economic presentation on the state of food supplies and the government’s measures taken to enhance the performance of industrial, agricultural, and tourist sectors, in addition to the steps taken to support the national currency.

In turn, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, briefed the Cabinet on the latest developments on the international arena and the efforts being made to fight takfiri terrorist organizations, first among which is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
